I had a very unhappy experience in Japan at Shinagawa Prince Hotel Tokyo on the 13rd of August 2016. This unhappy experience totally changed my impression of Japan and Japanese people. If it happen to me, it might happened to other tourists. I am wondering that how can Japan held the 2020 Olympic Game if the hotel staff lie to their guests ? I arrived at Shinagawa Prince Hotel on the 13rd of August around 2:30 pm, and I wait for about 30 minutes to check in. I went to the first counter from the right hand side, and I told the lady that I had booked the non-smoking room and I gave her the hotel reservation voucher and my passport. She looked at the computer monitor and told me that I booked a smoking room, instead of non-smoking room. I told her that I indeed reserved a non-smoking room. (I was sure that I reserved a non-smoking room because I had the booking information at hand, and checked with my travel agency many times in advance). Then, she went into the back room to check, and told me there were no non-smoking rooms at all after her check the information from the back room. I told her again that I indeed reserved a non-smoking room and show her my conversations with my travel agent on the "LINE app" that I reserved a non-smoking room. She did not want to deal with me this issue, and she just want me to admit that there were no non-smoking room and want me to leave. I told her that I need a non-smoking room because I did reserved it. Then, she went to the back room again (second time) to check, she came out and said I can have a non-smoking room. I would like to say that there are some dis-honest issues happened, it made me very unhappy and totally changed my impression of Japanese. I felt to get a non-smoking room need a lot of effort. I pointed out two dis-honest issues as follows. First, she told me that I booked a smoking room (it is not true) when I told her I reserved a non-smoking room, which I did not do it and my travel agent did not do it also. I checked with my reservation information from my travel agent after I came back to Taiwan, I did reserved a non-smoking room. She lied to me, she is a dis-honest staff and Japanese. Second, she told me that there were no non-smoking room, and after I argued with her, she gave me the non-smoking room immediately. She lied to me again. If you want to stay at the Sinagawa Prince Hotel, pelease remember that "To get a non-smoking room need a lot of effort, even though you reserved it and paid for the non-smoking room rate in advance."
